Every now and then I like the idea of reviving the "Daily Record" feature of this blog, in which I randomly pick some album or CD, listen to it, then scribble a few sentences about it. So tonight, I'll try again to do that for a little while.
Today's Daily Record is not a random pick, but it is a no-brainer. We received Time Machine, the new CD by The Peace Creeps, over the weekend. We had a Peace Creeps listening pizza party on Saturday evening and I've been letting the album sink in ever since. I like it very much.
Now, I'm not even going to try to be objective here: my brother-in-law, Roy Fisher (bass), and his longtime friend/bandmate, Jeff Pancoast (drums), are the Peace Creeps' rhythm section. The band is led by guitarist/singer/songwriter Richard Bush, and John Marchiano plays guitar.
The bottom line, though, is that I'd like the Peace Creeps' music even if I didn't know the band. The Peace Creeps are something that might seem increasingly rare in the 21st century: a rock band.
Time Machine is a worthy follow-up to the band's 2006 debut CD, Autumn of Love. The songs encompass a variety of styles from pure pop to orchestral balladry to grinding rock with hints of psychedelia.
I'm finding that I like the whole of Time Machine but certain songs, such as "Fashions for the Fall," "Letter O' Love" and, especially "Meet the Beatles" are emerging as favorites.
So today's Daily Record is Time Machine by the Peace Creeps. Check it out. And while you're at it, find the Peace Creeps on MySpace, "like" them on Facebook and come see them play live sometime. You'll be glad you did!

I did listen to the samples and liked a couple of the songs. I hear shades of Elvis Costello in some songs and one-time psychedelic 80s rockers Enuff Z' Nuff in others. I'll likely snag "Fashions for Fall," "Meet the Beatles" and "I Hate November." :)

And how is eMusic these days? How did you feel about all the changes they've made in the last year?

I'm still a subscriber because I can basically get a full CD of music for the same - or lower - price than if I bought it from a shelf or iTunes. Unfortunately, because of their new pricing I'm getting more full-length CDs from known/liked artists than from the new artists (which is where most of my downloads used to go). The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Or something.
I'm staying with them...for now. With each change that they make I get less and less likely to stay on with them.
